Dodger Thoughts

Jon Weisman's outlet for dealing psychologically with the Los Angeles Dodgers, baseball and life

Bamm-Bamm Bison!

Bamm! Two-run homer in the first inning.

Bamm! Two-run homer in the second.

Bamm-Bamm!

Matt Kemp’s double shot of power, Andre Ethier’s home run and Ted Lilly’s seven innings of two-hit ball led the Dodgers to a 6-1 victory over San Diego and boosted them to an 8-1 start.

  1. I am watching, I am a witness, this is happening

  2. Made it to my first home game tonight and was delighted on many levels – Ted Lilly’s win, seeing Matt and Andre go back-to-back and then seeing Matt do it again, having my first Dodger dog of the year, and finding out the roster spot for Lilly was cleared by Coffey going on the DL.

Even if it’s not going to last (why can’t it last?), it’s nice to see the Dodgers with the best record in the majors.

Come back soon, Vinny, you are missed!

Don Newcombe and Tommy Davis, both former teammates of Robinson, will throw out ceremonial first pitches as part of the Jackie Robinson Day festivities.

      What’s wrong?

Yes, the Davis/Robinson connection seems problematic.

Davis’ first spring training with the Dodgers was in 1956, so there’s that.

Aren’t you up watching West Indies v. Australia?

    So who is Pebbles?

I am going to guess that the statute of limitations for bemoaning Edwin Jackson, who threw a 2-hitter against the Reds yesterday, has long past.  But we can bemoan Kuroda, right?

  7. From Elias Sports Bureau via ESPN Stats and Information: “The last player with 15 RBI in his team’s first nine games is Albert Pujols in 2010 (last with more was Alex Rodriguez, 16 in 2007).  The only other Dodger with 15 or more RBI in his team’s first nine games is Hall-of-Famer Roy Campanella, who had 16 in 1953.”

  8. Red Sox call up Jason Repko, whom Peter Abraham of the Globe says will start in CF. http://bo.st/HDXJyT

    What a fantastic start!!

  10. James Loney has a positive OPS+ for the first time this year.

  11. Dee Gordon has gone 2 for 20 with two walks, OPS has fallen below .500.

I don’t think OPS will ever be the way to measure him. Zero power. But a .200 OBP isn’t good for a speed guy.

  12. So, Jamie walks with 130mil and Frank walks with nearly a billion and some stake in the parking lots…while 130mil is more money than anyone needs, Jamie has to be kicking herself about now, right?

  13. Steve Hall

It appears the only serious challenger to Matt for the Triple Crown (assuming a true assault on the title) is…Andre!
