A special day indeed!  Have to remind my big brother, who took me to the game.

    As good as it gets.

You could listen to that recording a million times and still get goosebumps.

Even today I was on the edge of my seat hoping he’d get it.

Oh god!  I was at UCLA’s incoming freshman “orientation” weekend staying in one of the dorms.  Can that really be forty-seven years ago?

Greatest pitcher in the history of the game.

Well, yesterday’s game was a big step in the right direction.

Now if the team just will hurry up and DFA this GDIP guy, maybe things will get better.  That guy hurt the team twice more yesterday.

He’s probably held the team back even more than U-rbi-less.

Which GIDP guy? The Dodgers had two yesterday, one from Gonzalez and the other from Cruz.

Are you referring to Rivera, who has a lot of GIDPs? He sort of needs to stick around because the Dodgers need an extra outfielder and first baseman. And he doesn’t play that much anymore.

        that’s what I was wondering

      • foul tip

No.  Just trying to be funny about DFAing the generic guy named GIDP,  who has hurt the team all season and shows up in boxscores.

And obviously not succeeding very well.   ;-])

On the Internet, nobody knows when you’re being facetious.

Mike Trout hit a leadoff homer for the Angels for the second straight game and fourth this season.

The Dodgers have hit one leadoff home run (home or road) all season. And it was from Dee Gordon.

The Astros lead the Reds 5-1 in the 8th and are on the verge of winning a road series in Cincinnati. Since the All-Star Break, the Astros have won just one series, and it was at home to Milwaukee.

Let’s hope that happens to the Blue in two weeks!

my dad actually let me stay up to listen to this game…my usual bed time was 2030

The Cubs lead the Pirates 4-2 in the top of the 9th.
The Cardinals lead the Brewers 4-2 in the top of the 8th.

Brewers get two runners on in the 8th, but Lucroy GIDPs to end the threat.

Yesterday I posted the following and was surprised it got no reaction. I did surround it with more game detail which might have been the problem:

Wow!  Hadn’t heard of this guy before.  When did we pick him up?  Right off the island?

BTW – WBC 13 starts with qualifiers in a couple of weeks.

Pirates loaded the bases with one out in the 9th against Carlos Marmol and did not score. They were swept by the Cubs at home. It’s hard out there for a Bucs fan.

Just saw them when they came through DC.  Hard to imagine getting swept by the Iowa Cubs, as nsxtacy is fond of calling them.

Clayton Kershaw scratched from today’s start. Joe Blanton on the mound instead.

Buster Olney is reporting that Kershaw is out with a “hip issue.” I do not think this means that he got into an argument with AJ Ellis over The Decembrists.
