rule 6.09(g) says: Any bounding fair ball is deflected by the fielder into the stands,
or over or under a fence on fair or foul territory, in which case the
batter and all runners shall be entitled to advance two bases
    .
If you look at the whole of rule 6 09, I think you will agree this does not mean 2 bases from where the batter is but 2 bases from where the batter and the other possible players started. I am not 100% sure but pretty sure esp. after what we saw in the game.

    • Anonymous

      Hey, thanks for that.

    • Anonymous

Huh… in that case anytime a Revere-ish speedy guy hits one down the line, just have your OFer kick it into the stands to stop a triple.

      • Anonymous

not that easy to kick a ball esp. if moving into the stands; you risk turning a triple into an inside the park HR

Wow. Kemp 0-3 with 3 Ks and a 2 out E in the 9th to allow the tying run to score. Not pretty.

    • Anonymous

Although if you ask me, that was AJ’s error.

      • Anonymous

AJ could’ve helped him, but that throw was 20 feet offline.

        • Anonymous

But the run only scored because AJ misplayed it.

          • Anonymous

Same thing as a bad throw to first – the first basemen can dig it and help the guy out, but if he can’t it’s all on the throw. It isn’t AJ’s fault he had to run twenty feet to his right, try to slide block it and corral the ball. E on Kemp.

          • Anonymous

AJ there in plenty of time, all he had to do was block it then pick it up. It was an easy play. Run scored because of AJ not Kemp

He obviously would cost more, but better the team focus on getting one C. Lee than Nolasco. Another top-of-the-rotation arm could be enough to put the team over the top, if this level of winning continues.

Beyond being way better, he has that postseason experience Ned so values.

Beyond prospect cost, Lee’s signed for a bunch of $$$. But what’s $$$ for the Guggenheimers?

    • Anonymous

Don’t believe that the fillies are ready to throw in the towel at this point and deal C. Lee, which would also imply unloading Rollins, Howard and Utley. But worth revisiting in about a month.

He looks better and better every start. I really hope he gets the chance to stay in the rotation until he pitches himself out of it.

      • https://www.facebook.com/kmt59 KT

I think Stephen has pitched well in almost every game…He gives us a chance to win

        • foul tip

IIRC, in ST he outpitched a couple who made the rotation.

“Yasiel Puig triples on a popup to second baseman Chase Utley.”

There’s something you don’t see on Gameday very often.

    • https://www.facebook.com/kmt59 KT

actually it fell right in front of Young and skipped by him…Utley ran it down and by that time Puig was on 3rd

      • foul tip

So, Utley gets blame. KInda like a basketball ref seeing and calling the second foul after missing the first that prompted the second…

Odd thing is, that’s the second pitch at Kendrick’s head Fife has thrown.

  • foul tip

Gameday: “Kyle Kendrick hit by pitch.”

Andy, in his most patient, softest voice: “No, Barney, that’s not how you’re supposed to “hit” the opposing pitcher.”

AJ! waking up with the bat again

  • foul tip

If DM gives Barney the hook just bc he’s gone 6, on only 83 pitches and cruising, up 4-0, it’ll be serious overmanaging/incompletence.

Watch him closely, yeah. But see if dude can pitch a shutout. Pull him reluctantly, if necessary.

Yasiel Puig’s 43 hits this month are tied with Steve Sax (Aug. 1982) for the most ever in a calendar month by a Los Angeles Dodger rookie

Sax’s did it in 31 days, Puig 28

In this game, this situation, they encourage the HR attempt, right? I would.

I was only able to tune in sporadically today, but what a game filled with nice implications . . . Fife impressive, offense impressive, Dominguezi mpressive.
So what can I day — I’m impressed!

and SD, AZ, and probably CO lose…gain on everyone but SF

      • Anonymous

THat’s all great, but my initial goal — my “waffle,” to use Jon’s vernacular from a few days ago — is reaching .500. That would mean the Dodgers have improved their own game, regardless of what anyone else is doing.
Of course, I’m not going to throw back gaining in the standings as well, especially the distance they’ve traveled in 9 days!

        • Anonymous

My waffle pick was 86 wins, which may actually be enought to win the West at this point!

I believe we’re on the same page with that, KT — why in the world allow it without even trying, especially with as hot as Ellis is? Or is the pitcher using a windup?

  • foul tip

Someone with only Gameday eyes–me–wonders why DM wouldn’t let Withrow work through it, try to finish, and build his confidence.

Any sound reason, or just DM being DM?

      DM being DM

Hanley really didn’t get back into the lineup regulalry until the middle of the month, otherwise…might have given Puig a run for his money.
