Should be a good series – Chipper’s been on fire.

Looks like the next series, Giants get to miss Billz :
    Mon : Bum vs. Kershaw
    Tues : Lincecum vs. Blanton
    Wed : Cain vs. Cap

    • Anonymous

      Tuesday looks like a hit-a-thon

    • Anonymous

Never thought I would see the phrase ‘Giants to miss Billz’  or, ‘any team’ to miss Billz for that matter.   Happy to see it though….

      • Anonymous

Billingsley is 8-6 with a 3.16 era against the Giants. For some reason I feel like he’s beast mode against them, but he’s about what you’d expect given his career numbers and the Giants weak offense of 2006-12.

    LAT’d, how professions evolve: http://i.imgur.com/kFsKk.jpg

    •  My new desktop background, for the foreseeable future.

    • I’ve been a lurker on this site forever but for the life of me I cannot figure out what “LAT’d” stands for. Anyone want to enlighten me? (Or ban me for asking such a stupid question??).

EDIT TO ADD: For the first time, someone else asked this further down the thread, of course. Oops! Feel free to delete this!

I have never heard a reason as to why Treanor catches Capuano so often, have you?

    • Anonymous

Replying to your question on the other thread, according to John Shea’s article in the SF Chronicle (http://www.sfgate.com/giants/shea/article/Giants-show-little-support-for-Cabrera-3794698.php), Melky’s clubhouse support is less than zero. Given the Gnats’ high-profile PED issues – Guillermo Mota’s suspension ends on the 26th – it would be shocking for them to say anything other than “Adios, Melky.” Lots of people thought B*nds would get an offer when the Gnats decided they’d had enough with him, and the silence with Melky to be equally deafening – fourth outfielders aren’t that hard to find.

Let’s come back to this in 6 months. not the Treanor/Capeano question though

        • KT

I remember something was said earlier in the year but my “old” timers dease stops me from giving you that info

        • Anonymous

It’s an open question, obviously, but I think Melky’ll most likely get a minor-league invite from somebody, and he’ll have a lot to prove.

After 2.5 years in production, Jon Leonoudakis’s documentary, “Not Exactly Cooperstown”, will premiere at the Pasadena Central Library on Sunday, August 19, at 2:00 p.m.

This isn’t your father’s baseball documentary.  It’s an unorthodox look at America’s most orthodox game. There’s something for everyone: americana, folklore, sex, religion, scandal, fandom, poetry, sport and art. You can visit the film’s website at notexactlycooperstown.com as well as its Facebook page.

The screening is going to feature a special $2 trivia quiz (if you get the question right, you get a crisp $2 bill) and attendees are encouraged to arrive in full baseball regalia for the chance of a special prize. Admission is free and open to the public.  The film was made for non-profit/educational purposes and will eventually be donated to schools and universities around the US.

If you miss it in August, it will also be playing in South Pasadena, Orange County, San Diego and San Francisco in the fall before it goes on tour to the mid-west and east coast.

    What does LAT’d mean?

    • LAT was a poster from the toaster days who often (really often) posted a comment just as Jon was making an NPUT, thereby assuring nobody would see his comment, thus, LAT’d.

      • Anonymous

I always wondered about that, I thought it was some fancy American speak that I didn’t understand (like Left At The End – or something like that) that would makeit L.A.T.E   :)

      • Anonymous

I understand it, I think.  So what does LAT’d  mean when someone earlier today posted:  LAT’d, how professions evolve: http://i.imgur.com/kFsKk.jpg

        •  LAT’d heads a re-post of the comment (or picture) from the earlier thread onto the new one.

          • Anonymous

Jim:  Thanks for taking the time to patiently explain this to me.  I can honestly say that I learned something new today!

          • No problem. I once got raked through the coals (in a very funny way) when I asked what NPUT meant :)

Great Interview of Larry “Chipper” Jones by Steve Lyons today on Dodgers Live

    • Anonymous

Great and Steve Lyons in the same sentence.  That’s kind of like agreeing with VODF on a stats based discussion.

    Thank you, Michael Bourn.

  10. KT

    Good inning Chris 7 pitches

  11. Anybody catch what those patches on the side of their hats is? I walked away from the tv for a minute.

  12. KT

    Come on James

  13. After Chipper “retires,” can the Dodgers sign him?

    • Anonymous

Can the Dodgers just sign him not to play against them?

  14. Anonymous

Larry is on a bit of a hot streak

  15. Anonymous

The Dodgers need to stop playing guys named Jones. Or signing players named Jones.

    No Jones!

To show you how bad Andruw was in L.A., the best L.A. Dodger Jones was Mitch Jones back in 2009.

    • Anonymous

Speaking of guys like that, anyone know if big John Lindsey is still playing in the U.S.?

  16. KT

Come on Luis start it off

  17. KT

It would probably be a mistake for C Jones to quit after this year. But I always admire guys who”quit while they are ahead.”

Just got MLB.TV and now realize why everyone had nothing nice to say about Steve Lyons…what a maroon!

Was it Bugs Bunny who invented the term Ultra-Maroon! Somehow i doubt it.But sometimes it applies!!

  22. KT

    Come on Matty

  23. KT

    Way to get on Dre

    Come on Hanley

  24. KT

Why the ss had the ball as Dre was rounding 3rd???

  25. Wow, kinda shocked they sent Ethier there.

    • Anonymous

Me too. Full credit to Janish for making a perfect relay.

  26. Anonymous

Did Chipper Jones ever wish he played for the Dodgers? Lyons didn’t finish saying.

  27. Anonymous

Now that was a great relay throw – pretty much the opposite of MEllis’ relay yesterday.

  28. Anonymous

How much was Ethier out by?

  29. It does seem like we’ve had fewer runners thrown out at home compared with the Rich Donnelly era.

  30.  With Loney on deck, I don’t think you should be shocked he was sent.

  31.  Ten feet or so. Two nice throws after Prado cut the ball off on the run in LF>

  32. Anonymous

Other than that one mistake to a locked-in Chipper – Cap has really been dealing so far.

  33. KT

Nice hit James way to get on

    Come on Luis

  34. Anonymous

I wonder what Mattingly’s strategy will be.  If he has Treanor bunt, and the bunt is successful, that puts runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out and Capuano coming up.  If Treanor hits away, a DP could easily occur.

  35. KT

    Come on Chris Help yourself

  36. KT

Way to hit it well Chris

  39. KT

    Nice Mark

    Come on Matty

  40. Man, Cappy really is pitching a gem. Just that one mistake to Chipper and he’s down. While Dodgers have had several opportunities with nada across. That’s baseball!   Let’s get Cap a deserved win, eh fellas?

  41. It’s been a while Dre!!!

  42. No one’s catching that one!  FINALLY. Squee-thier!

  43. Wallach now 1 for 2 sending Ethier home from third :)

  44. Anonymous

Well that was great to see – if Ethier can get his HR swing going again, it should really be a great stretch run for the Dodgers.

  45. KT

    Come on DP

I live outside of the Dodgers’ TV market, and I don’t subscribe to the MLB package.  I live in Giants’ home territory, so I get to see the Dodgers whenever they play San Francisco.  And I get to see them on MLB.TV, ESPN and Fox, but not as often as I would like.  So, I remain disappointed and surprised (not so much, any more), by the fixation that MLB.TV, ESPN and Fox have with televising Yankees vs. Red Sox again and again and again, year after year after year, even when one of the teams, such as the Bosox this year, is not very good.

    • KT

I agree about NY vs Bos

I’m also out of the market but I love Dodgers so much I pay Directv for MLB extra innings

      • Anonymous

I ditched Extra Innings and have found MLBTV much better.

    • Anonymous

I subscribe to MLBTV, but only the most basic cable, so I don’t get to see the Dodgers play the Gnats unless it’s on the Gnats’ broadcast channel. It also means I don’t get to see the A’s, who are more interesting than the Gnats. Where do you live?

      • Anonymous

I live on the Monterey Peninsula, about 120 miles south of San Francisco.  How about you?

    • Anonymous

I hear ya – The Rangers – Blue Jays is the other game MLB Network is covering. When I bring it up on my menu (DirecTV) – it says “Regional coverage – NY vs. Boston or Texas vs. Toronto”. I’m in California – so I’m guessing at MLBN they think NY, Boston are closer to California than Texas.
In this case, I really don’t care – but if I were an Angels fan it would suck.

    Shane Victorino
I was surprised to see him framed as a lead off hitter.
He has done well–but Im still not sure lead-offmis his thing.

God–I’m not sure I should be pulled on board by this plagiarithym of McCourtey: so obvious and so tasteless!!

    • Anonymous

What better alternative is there this season?

  53. Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye…
Man, I always loved that Victorino guy, don’t know why you guys were so hard on him as a Philly. ;)

    • Anonymous

I found him occasionally irritating, but I always admired his skills.

  54. My goodness. Capuano’s thrown 52 strikes and only 15 balls coming into this inning, acc. to Gameday. That’s astonishing.

  55. KT

Hard to believe Choate not ready for Heyward.

  57. Whatever happens here, terrific outing by Cappy. I tip my cappy.

    • Should have left him in.

      • But the thing is when Capuano tires, he tires in a hurry, and it’s really bad news. Even now in hindsight I don’t think I’d leave him in there.  Bummed he gets no decision though, after such a great outing. ;(

I didn’t want to be negative, but lately, Belli is scary.  And that’s in the traditional use of the word.

    • Anonymous

He’s been poor v. lefthanded hitters.

    • Blue-eyed Gal

I finally conceded that I’d been wrong about Belli and he was a good reliever, and he starts to revert. Ergh.

Come on, LA! Pretend I’m there, okay? I have yet to see a Capuano game lost when I’m there in person!

    • I do wish we had Elbert right now. For whatever reason I trust him more than Choate.

  59. As long as Braves fans do the execrable Tomahawk Chop I will have a hard time rooting for them in anything.

  63. Treanor’s early offensive success is a long distant past.

    • KT

You try to play maybe once out of every 5 games then face one of the best closers in baseball

      • I don’t pretend to be able to swing a bat as good as anybody on the roster (well maybe Uribe ;)), but I’m not just talking about his last at bat. In the last two months, about 15 games for him, he has a total of 3 hits. Yeah he’s only got 100 PA’s which I understand is tough, but he at least provided a little something earlier in the year.
