Dodger Thoughts

Jon Weisman's outlet for dealing psychologically with the Los Angeles Dodgers, baseball and life

Misery loves misery

Anger and depression are their own kind of comfort food, aren’t they?

The best thing about the Dodgers’ performance Monday is that you could turn it off.

There’s no shortage of people to criticize. That doesn’t mean every target deserves every tomato being thrown, but the impulse is understandable.

I tend to spend a lot of time throwing tomatoes at myself, so the Dodgers’ example of great potential struggling is one I tend to sympathize with more than rage at.

But I’ll sure be happy when things get better for them.

Here are two videos to cheer you up. The first comes via Roberto Baly at Vin Scully Is My Homeboy.

The second is just an all-around cure-all.

Matty practically undressing on the field…good heart

    Makes my happy.

I had heard those lyrics before and I don’t think it was from Dick. I wonder if a few episodes actually had the lyrics song with the music

  4. Van Dyke has said Morey Amsterdam wrote the lyrics.

Let’s just hope Kemp doesn’t trip over any ottomans.

But I do have to admit that the Dodgers have been chitty chitty this year.

I liked that video of Matty Kemp….
    ….
I’ll show it to my wife, who will, in turn, start reaching for some ‘singles’ as she watches Matty undress.

With the urgent need for an infusion of energy, levity, and attitude…..

Ned should reach out to World Champion pitcher, Brian Wilson.

    ….
Ned @ Press Conference: “Hey, he’s injured… but, he can’t be any worse than any of our Javy Guerra” :-)

No way to Twitterboy. There are already too many useless ex-Gnats on the roster.

    • I’d be forced to turn off the tv every time he came out to pitch. I’m so glad those Taco Bell commercials have run their course.

Thanks, Jon — both are awesome.

Poignant to see DVD and MTM together . . . and to remember how successful the Dodgers were when “The Dick Van Dyke” show was airing in the ’60s. (sigh)

    • KT

when I started watching both…coincidence…I think not ^_^

    Thanks.

I must not have shown enough gratitude for being .500 on May 1

Herrera in the bigs, Hernandez in the lineup. Getting harder every day to watch the games.

Ellis has to get a rest sometime.

still holding onto Cruz and Hernandez instead of SVS and Fed

Jon, it was great to meet you at the book signing on Saturday. Thanks for all your writing!

such a dark hole 6-9 with the exception of shredder in the 8th spot

At least when Kid K is pitching, there’s some excitement at #9.

That means Dee will be able to bunt Crawford along, thus avoiding any risky running plays.

I definitely get the feeling that we’re the out-numbered English at Agincourt (even tho that monolog was earlier in the play). Let’s hope for similar victories for the good guys!

The pre-season rezoning took Prime ticket out of the local market because now we have FSSD…I immediately called Directv “I this going to effect my watching the Dodgers” rep “No you still have the regional sports package and MLB extra innings”

Today Prime ticket is only showing the game in their local market….Blacked Out…Hating the new zoning
Have to suffer with the AZ feed

Brother, that sucks big time. I’m on Dish and we occasionally get HD coverage on certain PT dodger games delayed for…no apparent reason. And I suspect the availability will become a serious problem when the new contract with TW kicks in.

      • KT

no I have no problem with the Lakers…didn’t even have to buy NBA league pass they showed almost every game

        • Anonymous

Was thinking (mistakenly?) that the new Dodgers channel debuting in 2014 would be carried by TW, not specifically about the Lakers.

From the silver lining department — at least it’s not a double.

I think we should stop the 1 run per half innings just about now (and I don’t mean more than 1!)

But continue scoring in the bottom half!

Who’dve thunk Josh would end up with a “quality start”? . . . Unfortunately, the hitters aren’t showing much quality.

This SS for the D-Backs is worth the price of admission just to watch him field his position.

Great feet, great arm, great body control…. This kids’s got it all….and, at 23 yrs. of age. Wow.

Half a League half a League half a League onward, into the valley of death rode… Oh, never mind.

The only possible silver lining here is League is on the line for the loss.

Too bad he’ll still be the closer.

Is it insanity that’s described as repeating the same thing over and over, expecting a different result? . . . In the case of League, that makes Chavez Ravine the Cuckoo’s Nest.

League gets the loss, but the hitters lost it again.
    San Diego extends their lead.
More pressure on the Kid tomorrow.
    Sad . . . sad . . . sad.

So very very out managed tonight. Your closing pitcher walks his first man? You take him out.

Eventually, we will win another game. Won’t we?

That’s what they say . . . but there’s always a first time the odds go completely against you. The Angels are coming up — there are no ties in baseball, so ONE of the teams have to win!
