Dodger Thoughts

Jon Weisman's outlet for dealing psychologically with the Los Angeles Dodgers, baseball and life

Andre Ethier vs. Adam Wainwright

Sure, you remember Matt Holliday from Game 2 of the 2009 National League Division Series, but do you remember this?

In his regular-season career, Ethier is 10 for 33 with three walks and three homers against the Cardinals ace, for a 1.028 OPS. It is hoped Ethier will be in the starting lineup for the Dodgers in the 2013 National League Championship Series — if he can play at all, you can count on him appearing in Monday’s Game 3 against Wainwright.

    I hope he’s ready

Against the Cardinals this season Nolasco was 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA (with Miami).

Was that a glimpse of Shake ‘n Blake? We now have a new Beard on the team (I don’t count Clayton’s). Not sure how that sits with him.

Yeah, I remember. I was there – my last game for over 2 years while I waited out the McCourts.

  5. And Manny was on deck!

Rewatched the highlights posted down the bottom, in Belliard and Loretta we trust! (Who would have thought) :)

Mattingly said Ethier is not likely to get the start tomorrow. That sucks. We need him over Skip from game 1, for home runs like this.

Price says he expects Rays to trade him this offseason.

So…..might other ex-Dodgers join Loney in Tampa as Price heads west?

Dodgers have a glut of starters. But they said that this year too, and we know that story. And, do you turn down David Price if you can get him?

How about a top 3 of Kershaw, Greinke &, Price, followed by Ryu and whomever? 3 lefties, but so?

He’s probably going to cost as much as Cano, and Johnson basically implied that that would be too much money, because they need to sign Kershaw and that will cost an arm and a leg and he isn’t going anywhere no matter the cost.

And Magic’s already looking ahead at locking down Hanley. Smart moves.

There’s no guarantee Loney, who had a pretty good year, will stay in Tampa.

  10. I just hope they give out white rally towels again.

Cardinals, Dodgers, Tigers, Red Sox..if you go back 2006 to present – these teams been in pennant series a lot

Even despite the very best efforts of McTort & Co. to ruin the franchise.

Not sure why any TV execs would agree to play an NLCS game in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. No reason why Dodgers-Cardinals cant be a prime time game. Just start the AL east coast game at 7 EST, and start the Dodgers at 10 EST, especially if they are on the west coast. Do people in the pacific time zone not watch TV?

  13. 50% chance of rain Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. So says weather.com.

    • KT

not going to anything to disrupt game, if any rain at all it will be before game time

However unlikely Price becomes a Dodger, a question from thinking about it–has any team ever had 3 Cy Young winners in its rotation?

    • JHT

I suspect a number have. Braves did with Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz.

“”You had to walk Clark,” Herzog said. “I don’t care if it’s Babe Ruth or Humpty Dumpty at the plate. You got to walk him. I thank Tommy all the time for pitching to Jack Clark.”

Apparently the Cardinals showed the ’85 Clark homer every 3 minutes during the Dodger workout at Busch Thursday. Might be a little extra motivation, no?
