Alberto Callaspo designated for assignment

To make room for Chase Utley on the 25-man and 40-man rosters, the Dodgers have designated infielder Alberto Callaspo for assignment. A solid fielder at third base, Callaspo had a .336 on-base percentage and .301 slugging percentage in 138 plate appearances for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers retain pitchers Ian Thomas, Juan Jaime and Eric Stults from the Juan Uribe/Chris Withrow trade.

  1. Little surprised at this move, thought SVS would be optioned (since he can come right back up on the 1st), and another DFA like Wilkens would happen. For now I guess Guerrero is backup 3B (maybe Kike as well).

    • Losing a righthanded power bat in SVS would have been a bigger surprise in my mind.

      • Guerrero could be considered a right handed power bat. The point though was I was surprised to lose a player on the 25 man permanently, compared to sending one down for 11 days and bringing them back up.

  2. So much for the trading Uribe for Callaspo.
