Joc Pederson has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, but the Dodgers are placing pitchers Hyun-Jin Ryu and Casey Fien on the 15-day disabled list, each with elbow tendonitis.

Luis Avilan is returning from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Fien’s roster spot.

Ryu was scheduled to start for the Dodgers at Washington on Wednesday. He allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings July 7, in his first start since 2014.

The Dodgers haven’t announced a replacement starter for Wednesday. Bud Norris is scheduled to start on regular rest for Thursday’s day game. Clayton Kershaw doesn’t have an announced return date yet.

As a Dodger, Fien had a 1.96 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings through July 2. Since then, he has allowed six runs (including four home runs) in 3 2/3 innings.

Pederson showed he was ready to return during three rehab games with Triple-A Oklahoma City, in which he happened to go 5 for 8 with four walks and one strikeout.

In the Majors this season, Pederson has a .328 on-base percentage and .476 slugging percentage with 16 doubles, 13 homers and 31 walks against 66 strikeouts. He is fourth among National League center fielders in weighted runs created.

  1. With the day off Monday, Norris could just move up a day and be on normal rest, McCarthy and Maeda could as well, starting Thursday and Friday. Saturday is when something would need to be done, possibly Kershaw coming back.

  2. Never mind Kershaw Saturday now, he’s been shut down, I’m sure Jon will have more soon
