For Vin Scully’s final homestand with the Dodgers, we’ve created something special for Dodger Insider.
The 96-page September 19-25 issue of the magazine has been dedicated to content celebrating the career of the beloved broadcaster. And on the final day of the season — Fan Appreciation Day — the first 50,000 ticketed fans will get an edition with the special commemorative cover seen above.
It won’t surprise you to learn that for everyone here, putting this issue together was a personal labor of love. Stories inside the magazine include a history of Scully’s career, a celebration of his unparalleled storytelling ability, numerous tributes from those who knew him best (from Carl Erskine to Jaime Jarrín), a feature on his wife Sandi, countless classic photos and more.
As you know by now, Dodger Insider magazine is handed out at the autogates (one per vehicle), as well as at Fan Services booths for those who arrive via alternate transportation. That will remain the case for the first six nights of the seven-game homestand, which also includes Vin Scully Bobblehead Night on September 20 and the final retired-number pin giveaway of the year, Tommy Lasorda’s No. 2, on September 22.
Vin Scully Weekend begins September 23, starting with Vin Scully Appreciation Day, which will include a special pregame ceremony (including special guests from Vin’s storied career), opportunities for fans to thank and pay tribute to Vin, the unveiling of the fan vote for the No. 1 Vin call ever, and a Friday Night Fireworks show (presented by Denny’s) set to the top calls of Vin’s career.
The next night, September 24, will feature the Vin Scully limited edition commemorative coin for the first 50,000 fans in attendance. Each individually numbered coin is minted with an image of Vin and his signature greeting quote on the front and the Dodgers’ established date on the back, and delivered in a protective flip pouch with a certificate.
And then comes September 25, with tributes to Vin throughout the game, as well as the usual Fan Appreciation Day prizes, and the full stadium giveaway of Dodger Insider magazine with the special commemorative cover.
On Vin Scully Weekend, auto gates and stadium gates will open 30 minutes earlier than usual each day (4:40 p.m. September 23, 3:40 p.m. September 24 and 10:40 a.m. September 25). Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the special activations and pregame ceremonies planned for each of the three final home games of the regular season.
