  1. KT

    Go BLUE!!!!

  2. (LATd) The Giants sure are giving the Red Sox a tough challenge. Down 12-1 today they will lose 2 out of 3 by a combined score of (at this writing) 21-4. Then it appears BoSox have tomorrow off while Dodgers have to play early game and then travel across country afterwards. But at least Friday’s game is an evening one so hopefully it won’t matter much.

    • btimmer

The Red Sox had to play a game on Sunday that started at 8 and took over 4 hours and then had to fly cross country for a Monday night game.

  3. And go Dodgers! Was glad to see Hanley finally get off the mat vs his old club yesterday; more of that por favor. Then he can make his other old club miserable on the weekend. ;)

  4. I always liked young Eo, but here’s to hoping the bats start off hot from the get go.

  5. KT

So Jayson Heyward ended up with a broken jaws from being hit by the pitch earlier

  6. KT

For those of you who haven’t seen Heyward getting HBP:

  7. KT

    Way to get on CC!!

  8. KT

    Nice play Hanley!

  9. Great play by HanRam, almost worthy of the Collins-gasm.

  10. Yikes. Stanton is…good. He crushes the Dodgers, too. Maybe just don’t throw strikes to him?

  11. KT

ok let’s get that one back

  12. Eo has been fooling almost no one but all those have been hit to someone. Could be one of those games, or he could be living on a shaky tree branch.

  13. KT

Alright don’t let Evoildi hurt you

  14. KT

    Ok now for some runs

Stanton would be the MVP if he played against us all year. And Ryu and Greinke are not pushovers either.

  22. KT

    Let’s go Yasiel

  23. foul tip

Gameday says Eovaldi consistently high 90s, a few 99s. Did he do that as a Dodger?

      • mike_tink

from an article that was on tbla before Monday’s game:
Nathan Eovaldi has significantly improved since his time in Los Angeles.
The biggest change has nothing to do with his strikeouts and walks, but
it does have roots deeper than that. Eovaldi’s major change is in his
fastball, which has gotten much faster.
He is now averaging 96 mph on the gun, easily touching 98-99 mph as a
starter in the early innings and carrying that weight into sixth and
seventh. Among starting pitchers with at least 50 innings this year,
Eovaldi leads all players in fastball velocity. This is an extremely
positive development and raises his ceiling significantly.

        • foul tip

For some reason, that reminds me of a somewhat jaded DTer from about the time Eovaldi first came up. DTer seemed rather surprised by his arm and observed, “he doesn’t suck.”

Never know in baseball. He might wear blue again one day.

  24. KT

  30. NoahUCLA

Now that we got a hit, what is the rule regarding mentioning no hitters by opposing pitvhers against the Dodgers while they are taking place? Is that a rule 9 vio?

  31. Bob_in_Vegas

  36. John_from_Aus

    Here we come!

  37. Nice! Whee!

I love how Collins and Lyons were stupidly chattering about how Eovaldi was nails and pitching a no hitter for first *3* innings (ignoring fact that Dodgers ripped some good contact in there but they were outs). But hey, thanks for the jinx!

  42. Bob_in_Vegas

Zack showing Kersh he can do that as well!

  43. Looks like his hand actually got to the base before the tag, but great pick from Zack none the less.

  45. Bob_in_Vegas

Zack really is slumping at the plate . . . lucky he’s good with the glove.

Apropos of the Marlin at the stadium in Miami, at Seals Stadium, which was the home of the San Francisco Giants in 1958 and 1959 and of minor league baseball for nearly 30 years before that, a live seal was sometimes kept underneath the grandstand in a water tank.

  47. scooplew

Around the turn of this century, Koyie Hill was considered by some to the Dodgers catcher of the future.

    • mike_tink

Nice to get home from work and have the Dodgers already up 3-1. Got in the car for the ride home just in time to hear them rally for 3 runs.

  52. ToyCannon

    Let’s go Jer-Dog

  53. scooplew

Greinke’s ERA has now dipped below 3 for the first time since mid-May, joining Kershaw, Ryu, Nolasco (as a Dodger), Jansen, Howell, Withrow, Rodriguez, Dominguez (DL), Fife (now in the minors) and, off course, Schumaker (0.00).

  54. KT

    8-0 reds, 2-0 pods

  55. KT

    Time to get Moar Runs

  56. ToyCannon

did u see that in the black body suit?

  57. ASW1

I like how Prime Ticket keeps a running pitch count during the telecasts – Channel 9 behind the times. Greinke sure lookin’ Good.

    • btimmer

No money in it for Channel 9 to invest in fancy graphics. They aren’t showing the Dodgers next year.

      • ASW1

Ah didn’t know that – you know who is? Dodgers own network starting up next season?

  58. KT

80 pitches for greinke so far

    • What variety of dog is this walking beast?

      • Bob_in_Vegas

Poodle-bichon, they say . . . got him from the shelter.

        • Good for you. I got what they called a pointer (nonsense; I’ve owned a pointer) but what the vet calls an Aussie cattle dog (or blue heeler) from a shelter back in February.

          http://linkmeister.com/wordpress/2013/02/wotta-face-huh/

          • Bob_in_Vegas

Awww! . . . . For me, the shelter’s the only way to go.

          • John_from_Aus

Great breed, well mannered (just like the rest of us Aussies) :)

          • Abby is. Not so sure about some of your countrymen. I was on Kwajalein once when a planeload of the RAAF arrived for some mission or another. They had a pallet full of Castleman’s 4X beer to help their lubrication. I had two cans of that about 12:00 noon and went off to my swing shift; at 6:00pm I still had a mild buzz from that stuff.

  69. Gameday’s automated Scout function is hilarious. Before Hechevarria’s AB it told me Greinke had tons left because his avg speed on the fastball was still 91. After he lined out it told me Greinke might be running out of gas because he’d had a low of 82 and a high of 91 on his fastball.

30-something veterans in back-to-back night game/day games. “With
[Clayton] Kershaw tomorrow, a left-hander, I want Juan in there, and I
can’t push him to go night and day.”
    Why Uribe didn’t start tonight.

    • scooplew

      Thanks.

    • Bob_Hendley

Lyons not doing his homework says it was because of the tough matchup (Uribear can’t catch up with the fast ones anymore).

Arquimedes Euclides Caminero. What a great name.

  84. mike_tink

MLBTR highly recommended an article on last year’s trade with Boston. I didn’t think it was worth reading but this is how it ended:
“I didn’t say I wasn’t a good negotiator,” Cherington said. “I said there are other people in the office who are better than me. Who are more naturally inclined that way. Everyone has different strengths. I
can do it, I don’t mind doing it. I can do it plenty. I think if I was honest in myself in lining up myself in lining up my strengths, that wouldn’t be at the top for me.”

A lot of people will think differently this weekend when they see Adrian Gonzalez in Dodger Blue.

Put it up in the Dodgers’ clubhouse

  85. btimmer

Archimedes and Euclid were likely not contemporaries. However, not much is known about Euclid’s life. Perhaps Euclid is leading a parallel life to one of us. And it will be a parallel life that WILL NEVER INTERSECT with ours.

    • scooplew

      You know all the angles.

      • btimmer

The Pythagorean theorem was not developed by Pythagoras. Perhaps because we aren’t sure Pythagoras was a real person. But he did have devotees called Pythagoreans who wanted to live in a math-based world.

I’m on the old Classic Gameday. It appeared there to split the bottom line of the strike zone box. So, ?

          • ASW1

It could have gone either way, but for a last strike of the game? Punch his arse out if he ain’t swingin’!

          • mike_tink

so am I on the classic; the circle of the ball #7 is a tiny bit out of the strike zone on the bottom; that is low

Whatever. The ump’s opinion is the only one that counts.

  95. Bob_in_Vegas

Another series not lost and hoping to pick up a game on AZ.

  96. Bob_in_Vegas

I’m agreeing with what I heard or read earlier — that this is Ethier’s best year for all-around contribution to the team . . . he’s been consistent at the plate since June (“consistent” was never a word used with Andre before) and he’s been a solid replacement in CF for Matt.

    • Bob_Hendley

I have always regarded him as streaky, though over his career he appears to be fairly consistent month-to-month (but don’t know the underlying variation)

    • mike_tink

His high WAR was last year (this at b-r) can’t see why it is so much higher than this year though

Silver Lining: they get to travel cross-country fairly early (knock wood) . . . and hopefully it’s a very happy flight!

  98. Bob_in_Vegas

Eovaldi showed we should miss him . . . but darn glad Hanley’s a Dodger!

    • ASW1

Feel the same way – Steiner/Monday were saying he was hitting 100 MPH on his FB – but the way Hanley’s been playing, still glad the trade was made.

  99. ASW1

Now that the game is over, for those who enjoy numbers and Mathematics like myself, here is a snippet of Erdos’ life from the book “The Man Who Loved Only Numbers” :

“Oliver Sacks writes of Erdös: “A mathematical genius of the first order, Paul Erdös was totally obsessed with his subject–he thought and wrote mathematics for nineteen hours a day until the day he died. He traveled constantly, living out of a plastic bag, and had no interest in food, sex, companionship, art–all that is usually indispensable to a human life.”

Reds retired — they need three outs to shut down AZ. When they were down 8-0 AND saw the Dodgers winning, they didn’t give up and made this a nail-biter (at least until the bottom of the 8th). That’s why I say focus on winning the division first if there’s any question who to root for. As someone else posted, I don’t like the idea of Gibby closing in.
