“I talked about this with Rickey Henderson. Rickey Henderson could do so many things, it’s almost a curse sometimes, because we always ask for more. Yasiel hits .350 — now we want him to be a perfect basestealer. He does that — now we want him to do this. With all that talent, you think there’s still more there, and at times, we ask a lot.”

— Don Mattingly, on Yasiel Puig

PIRATES VS DODGERSToday’s news and notes:

  • Justin Turner had a .238 on-base percentage and .228 slugging percentage on May 10. Since then, the infielder is 18 for 50 with a .400 OBP and .620 slugging.
  • Scott Van Slyke is making his first career MLB start in center field tonight. Below right, you can see him making an easy play on a ball hit to left center late in Saturday’s game.
  • PIRATES VS DODGERS

  • Vin Scully is the subject of a lovely profile by Cee Angi for SBNation.com.
  • Johnny Monell, recently acquired by the Dodger organization and stationed at Triple-A Albuquerque, was profiled by Christopher Jackson for Examiner.com.
  • Nick Gordon, brother of Dee Gordon and likely first-round pick in Thursday’s MLB draft, was interviewed by Zach Links for MLB Trade Rumors.

I know we can’t bring back Emmett Kelly but it would be great if the Dodgers brought back the BUM.

  3. Are the Dodgers asking him to do more or do less? In other words cut down on the mistakes? And he appears to be doing that and more!

How about that use of “more or less”! At least we won :)
