Carl Crawford’s ankle-induced exile from the Dodger active roster has ended after 43 days, as the left fielder was activated today.

Crawford is not in the starting lineup and for now is considered a reserve outfielder, but Don Mattingly told reporters today that Crawford has made an issue of it.

“Carl’s never been any trouble with anything,” Mattingly said.

Despite going 3 for 9 with a walk and two RBI for the Dodgers, Clint Robinson had to be designated for assignment to make room for Crawford.

“We hope he ends up back in the big leagues,” Mattingly said, “but if he doesn’t, we hope he ends up back with us.”

Robinson’s three pinch-hits are tied for third on the team.

Dodger 2014 pinch-hit leaders
6 Justin Turner (6 for 15 with a double and a walk)
4 Andre Ethier (4 for 9 with a double)
4 Chone Figgins (4 for 17 with five walks)
3 Dee Gordon (3 for 5)
3 Clint Robinson (3 for 6 with a walk)

In other news, Mattingly told reporters that Chone Figgins, out since June 13, was expected to take batting practice today and is nearing a minor-league rehab assignment.
