Bryan Stow struggles to remember what happened

From today’s entry at the website created in support of beating victim Bryan Stow:

… He seems to be having more issues with his memory and it understandably frustrates him. The other day we asked him if he remembered why he had memory problems he said “because I’m dumb”. It broke our hearts and we just had to remind him that is not true and it’s not his fault! So then we go through what happened to him and that he has suffered a TBI. He usually is pretty quiet after that, trying to process it all. All we can do is hug him and tell him he has us and we will never leave his side. …

Below is a video I found via Deadspin showing the return of Columbus, Ohio sports anchor Dom Tiberi after his 21-year-old daughter Maria died in a car accident. It’s every bit as heartbreaking as you imagine, but I also have great respect for Tiberi using his platform to remind drivers to be more careful.

Has this case gone to trial yet?

I think you need a hyphen between ‘beating’ and ‘victim.’ We wouldn’t want to support the beating of Bryan Stow.

I am terrified of my daughters getting into cars with their friends or driving themselves when they get older. Luckily we haven’t given 8 and 5 year olds drivers licenses yet, so I’m okay for now.

  4. That video is tragic. I don’t have any children yet but that made me tear up. I hope his message can have a positive impact on the people that have seen it.

“Sometimes I sit up in the darkness
And I watch my baby as she sleeps
Then I climb in bed and I hold her tight
I just lay there awake in the middle of the night

      Party down, party down
Drinkin’ til you can’t even see
Fill your car with your buddies
And wrap it around a tree

Make sure to tell yourself that this is cool
And make sure to tell yourself that you have no choice
And make sure to tell your friends that they drive you to it
And that you can quit anytime
      That you want
      You can quit
      Anytime
      That you want
      You can quit
      Anytime
      That you want
      You can quit
      You can quit
      You can quit

      Drink
      Drink
      Drink
      Drink
      Don’t Think
      Drive
      Kill

Since I live in NC, I’ve been trying to see if there’s any way I can make it to Atlanta for Game 1. Game time is key. I hadn’t been able to find it. Thanks, Jon.

Is anyone here rooting for either of James Loney’s Rays or Adrian Beltre’s Rangers to win this evenings game?

Both players had decent years :

    Loney : 157 games, 33 doubles, 13 HR, 75 RBI, .300 BA, .781 OPS, 119 OPS+, 2.8 WAR

    Beltre : 160 games, 31 doubles, 30 HR, 92 RBI, .316 BA, 880 OPS, 137 OPS+, 5.4 WAR

I don’t really have a clear-cut favorite, if I had to choose, guess I’d pick the Rangers.

Girardi’s contract concludes, Cubs job is open, Girardi loves Cubs, Girardi becomes Cubs Manager, Mattingly goes to Yankees?

Wow – Beltre really limping on that double.

  10. Hi all. I put up an open thread to discuss today’s game over at Elysian Fields. I’ll probably blog all the postseason play except games the Dodgers play. Let Jon do the hard work on those. ;)
