Dodger Insider magazine — April edition

Kershaw cover

April featuresBy Jon Weisman

Hanley Ramirez, the cover of our March issue of Dodger Insider, made it through the month healthy, knock on wood, but our April subject wasn’t so lucky.

Nevertheless, a terrific package on Clayton Kershaw highlights the next issue of the magazine, which will be on sale at the ballpark beginning with Friday’s home Opening Day and also mailed to current subscribers. The digital version of the magazine, which incorporates video elements (and, as I’ve learned, takes a bit longer to assemble), will be available online soon.

The April issue is filled with great features — the summary at right provides what I would call only a small sampling. There are more than than 30 stories in all, touching nearly every aspect of the organization on and off the field.

You can still see a relevant sample of one of our magazine stories, the Dodger Insider season preview, “Team on a Mission,” here.

To subscribe to either the print or digital versions of Dodger Insider, go to our magazine ordering page on Dodgers.com. Print subscribers will begin receiving their subscription the following month, so if you subscribe this week, your first issue will be the May issue.

Print subscribers also receive a free copy of the Los Angeles Dodgers 2014 Yearbook, featuring the special 21-page section dedicated to Vin Scully that is entirely in Scully’s words. A digital version of the yearbook that features video of Scully talking about his life and career is also in the works.

The Dodgers’ 2014 Yearbook: Special Vin Scully edition

2014 yearbook cover

The Los Angeles Dodgers 2014 Yearbook is a special 65th anniversary commemorative edition dedicated to Vin Scully. And you have to get it.

Not just because Vin Scully is on the cover, though that might be reason enough. But because we also celebrate the legendary broadcaster with an unprecedented 21-page section entirely in Scully’s words, discussing his life and career at length, taken from a one-on-one interview conducted in January.

Among the topics Scully discusses are his childhood and adolescence, his ascension to the broadcast booth, his move to Los Angeles and his thoughts about such players as Sandy Koufax, Fernando Valenzuela, Clayton Kershaw and Yasiel Puig. The interview is punctuated by personal reflections by Scully looking back through time.

The 2014 Yearbook is more than a collectors item — it’s something to cherish.

Beyond Scully, the Yearbook also features as a nice month-by-month review of the Dodgers’ 2013 season and a detailed look at the 2014 roster, as well as information about the team’s community efforts, minor-league talent and Dodger Stadium improvements.

The Yearbook is schedule to be on sale at Dodger Stadium beginning this week during the Freeway Series, and print copies can also be ordered here at the Dodger Insider magazine page. The Yearbook is free with a subscription to the print edition of Dodger Insider magazine.

Introducing Dodger Insider magazine

March 2014 cover

By Jon Weisman

I’m pleased to introduce Dodger Insider magazine, the in-depth companion to the Dodger Insider blog.

The first of eight monthly editions in 2014 is on sale now. You can purchase a digital download of a single issue, or subscribe either to the digital (with embedded video links) or print editions.

The print subscription comes with a free 2014 Dodger yearbook which — trust me — you are going to want.

Print editions are also on sale at Camelback Ranch and Dodger Stadium.

As a teaser, we’re presenting “Team on a Mission,” this month’s cover story, online for free. So check that out, but understand that there’s much, much more content in the magazine itself — including great features, news stories, historical pieces, photos and games. The March preseason issue is 72 pages, with next month’s April issue coming in at well over 100.

Update: Print subscriptions will be available for online order next week, but to order a print subscription by phone today, call (877) BLUE-062.

The 2014 Dodger publications tease

By Jon Weisman

I just need to tell you all that the stuff we’re working on for the publications side, I think you’re really, really going to want. This one thing that I’m staying up to work on tonight, in particular, I just don’t think you’re going to be able to do without.

I wouldn’t exactly call this our formal marketing pitch for 2014. But I just wanted to warn you. The train’s coming.
